“Thank You” is a song dedicated to the mother of my children, and I chose to keep it a secret from her until Mother’s Day. Having listened to rap for over 30 years, I’ve never encountered a song quite like “Thank You.” It’s a rare gem that appreciates the mother of my children, placing a strong emphasis on motherhood.

A Love Like No Other

In the chorus, I express “Thank You for my children,” and then, in the sequence of their births, each of my kids individually says something like “Thank you, Mom.” As their voices evolve over time, it’s a chorus that will stand the test of time and age exceptionally well. “The mother of my children, with whom I’ve been building, this foundation is groundbreaking,” I rapped.

She’s the One

In my rap, I say, “They don’t make ’em like you no mo’, but I hope that you did, though.” Just to clarify, I don’t wish for my kids to be exactly like their mother, like me, or like anyone else. It’s meant to be taken loosely, not literally. There’s something inherently special about the woman who is the mother of your children, or at least there should be. In the song, I underscore, “You are my children’s mother. For that alone, I love you!” She holds a distinctive and irreplaceable place in my mind. “No one else gettin’ that title, no one but you,” I added.

Her Unwavering Dedication

I can’t help but admire her for her incredible dedication. I rap, “Breastfed all of my kids. For 8 years, and still nursing. Now, that’s a sacrifice. But to you, it’s their birthright.” She’s also held down a demanding job, working 10-hour shifts, all while being a domestic goddess. Daily home-cooked meals, wiping away tears, and tending to our children’s wounds – she does it all. It’s a level of commitment and love that leaves me in awe. “Rather hit the park with the kids than party with your friends. Don’t forget to celebrate you, and may that party never end,” I rapped.

Extraordinary in Every Way

In the second verse, I openly acknowledge that at times, I forget the extent of everything she does for our family. I express in my rap, “So I wrote a list, a list of everything you do, just for the kids. And, I was like ‘What the fuck? I gotta step it up.'” It’s easy to become complacent when we’re accustomed to miracles occurring every day. However, her sacrifices are priceless and deserve acknowledgment. “You know what’s priceless? Seeing you with my kids,” I rapped.

Never Enough Thanks

The chorus repeats because it’s my favorite ever, and I want the message to truly sink in. I want everyone, especially my kids, to understand how much I appreciate the mother of my children. This song is my way of shouting it from the mountaintops.

Gratitude Beyond Words

Inspired by the legendary Tupac Shakur’s iconic “Dear Mama,” I rap, “I finally understand for a woman, it ain’t easy. Trying to raise my kids, I know I can be a bit needy. But, there’s no way I can pay you back. The plan is to show you I understand, and you are appreciated way more than I say it.” I wish for her to have days filled with understanding, fewer expectations, and more appreciation, not just on Mother’s Day, but every day.

In conclusion, “Thank You” isn’t just a song; it’s my way of saying, “I love you” to the incredible woman who’s the mother of my children. It’s a tribute to the unwavering love and dedication she brings to our family. She’s a queen, and she deserves to know how much she’s appreciated, every single day.
